Fun Summer Activity: Face Painting

Warm days, picnics, frozen treats, and fun in the water…these are just a few of the things that come to mind when I think of summer. Summer is here in full swing, and if you’re like me, you’re looking for fun and entertaining ways to keep the kiddos busy during their days off from school.

Face painting is a fun and easy way to add some excitement to any day! Why save face painting for those once a year carnivals, Halloween, or special events? With ALEX Toys’ face painting kit and face painting sticks, face painting is fun, quick to do, and easy to clean up!

The other day, after a swim in the pool, the kiddos and I got out the face painting supplies and decided to spend some time getting creative.

Here’s an easy DIY face painting butterfly design I did on Kylie. I don’t know any little girl who doesn’t want to be transformed into a beautiful butterfly. In just minutes, you can do this easy design yourself!

Step One: Using a sponge, paint a base color around the eyes and a bit onto the cheeks and forehead, leaving the space on the nose and bridge of the nose clean of color. Use any color you like that would make for gorgeous wings, or use a combo of colors like purple and pink, or the green ombre look we have going here.

Step Two: Using a Face Painting Stick, add the body detail of the butterfly along the bridge of the nose. I have found face paint sticks to be the easiest and quickest way to add detail to a child’s face. They come in a variety of colors, and are pretty inexpensive.

Quick Tip: When drawing detail over a base color, the tip of the face paint stick sometimes gets covered a bit with the base color. Just gently rub the tip of the face paint stick onto a paper towel or cloth, and your color will be ready to go on bright and bold again!

Step Three: Add the wing detail along the outline of the wings. This is also a good opportunity to fill in any area that didn’t get colored in dark enough with the base color(s).

Step Four: Last, but certainly not least in the eyes of my little girl, add glitter to the wing tips for a magical touch!

This easy butterfly face painting design is quick, and with the help of the convenient face painting sticks, you’ll have it mastered in no time!

Since we already had the paint out, and no one wants to be left out of the face painting fun, the boys got a chance to get all painted up too! Caitlyn even tried her hand at a tiger design on John David’s face once she realized how easy it was!
